How We Select the Right Tree for Your Property
Choosing the right tree for the right place is the single most important decision in the entire planting process. Our certified arborists evaluate several key factors before recommending any species for your Des Peres, MO property:
- Soil type, pH, drainage capacity, and depth to determine which species will thrive in your specific conditions
- Available planting space both above and below ground including overhead clearances and root zone room
- Proximity to structures, utilities, and hardscaping that could conflict with root growth as the tree matures
- Sun exposure and microclimate conditions including wind exposure and reflected heat from structures
- Your aesthetic goals including desired height, canopy spread, leaf type, flowering, and fall color
- Maintenance requirements and your willingness to invest in ongoing care after planting
- Local invasive species regulations and any HOA or municipal planting restrictions in Des Peres, MO
Proper Tree Planting Technique
The majority of premature tree failures are caused by improper planting, not poor genetics or disease. Our arborists follow current best practices including planting at the correct depth with the root flare visible at the soil surface, backfilling with native soil rather than amended mixes, staking only when necessary and for no longer than required, and applying the right amount of mulch in the correct configuration to protect and nourish the root zone.
After planting, we provide clear instructions on the critical first-year watering and care schedule that is essential to a new tree's establishment and long-term success on your Des Peres, MO property. We also offer follow-up visits to assess establishment progress and address any concerns that arise during the first growing season.
