Professional Stump Grinding in Alma, AR
After a tree is removed, the stump left behind can be more than just an eyesore. Tree stumps attract insects, harbor fungal diseases, create tripping hazards, and can continue to send up unwanted sprouts for years. Garrett Tree Service provides complete stump grinding services throughout Alma, AR using commercial-grade equipment that eliminates stumps quickly, thoroughly, and affordably.
Our stump grinding process uses a high-powered rotary grinding machine to reduce the stump and its major surface roots into fine wood chips. We grind stumps to a depth of 12 inches or more below grade, which is well past the point where regrowth can occur and deep enough to allow for replanting, sodding, or installing pavers and hardscaping over the site.
Why Stump Removal Matters for Alma, AR Properties
- Stumps left in place create tripping hazards for children, guests, and lawn care equipment operators
- Decaying stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, and other wood-boring insects that can migrate to structures
- Fungal growth on old stumps can spread root rot to healthy nearby trees and shrubs
- Stumps that continue sprouting draw nutrients from surrounding plants and create ongoing maintenance headaches
- Unsightly stumps reduce your property's curb appeal and can lower perceived value
- Stumps in lawn areas make mowing difficult, dangerous, and time-consuming
The Stump Grinding Process
Our stump grinding service is straightforward and efficient. First, our technician assesses the stump's size, root spread, and access requirements to determine the appropriate equipment approach. We then systematically grind the stump and visible surface roots in overlapping passes until the entire mass is reduced to wood chips and sawdust well below ground level.
After grinding is complete, we fill the resulting void with the wood chip mixture, which will gradually decompose and settle naturally. If you prefer, we can haul away the wood chips entirely and add topsoil to create a perfectly level planting surface. The area is raked clean and ready for whatever use you have in mind, whether it's new grass seed, a flower bed, additional trees, or hardscaping for your Alma, AR property.
Can All Stumps Be Ground?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. Our equipment can handle stumps of virtually any size including very large stumps from mature oaks, maples, or other hardwood species. The main factors that affect grinding are accessibility and the presence of large surface roots that extend beyond the stump itself. Our team will assess your specific situation and let you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.
